2026 Hawaiʻi Club Volleyball Championship 16U Division (5/9/26)
The Spike And Serve Volleyball Club G 15 Randy triumphed in a thrilling three-set sweep over Ka Ulu Koa 16 Taylor, 25-21, 25-14, and 25-23 in the 16U division of the 2026 Hawaiʻi Club Volleyball Championships at Windward Mall on Saturday!
SAS spared the first two points to Ka Ulu Koa, but Middle Blocker Hanna Dziadurski got SAS on the board with a kill. SAS and Ka Ulu Koa were neck and neck most of the way after that! Along with Punahou High School, Dziadurski also attended Acadia Festival of Traditional Music and Dance where she played the violin in 2022!
Neither team had a lead bigger than three points! SAS took the lead for good, 11-10, off an Alexis Kawakami kill. A service error on the next possession almost cost them, but Ka Ulu Koa committed a service error themselves, which resulted in SAS scoring four straight points to take a 15-11 lead. Kawakami will graduate from Iolani School in 2029!
SAS did not lose the lead after that, but they had to withstand a lot of pushes from Ka Ulu Koa! Ka Ulu Koa got within one on two occasions, but SAS uncorked a critical 6-3 surge to match its biggest lead of four, 22-18! It was punctuated by a Waiaulia Holts kill! Holts attends Punahou School despite being from Kaneohe.
Ka Ulu Koa scored three straight to cut the gap to one, 22-21, but SAS responded with three unanswered of their own to take set one, 25-21!
Both teams were neck and neck out of the gates in set two! With the score tied at six off a kill from Ka Ulu Koa’s Right Side Hitter Arja Crawford, SAS unleashed a momentum-shifting 12-3 run and doubled up on Ka Ulu Koa, 18-9!
From that point on, it was checkmate, and SAS won the second set going away, 25-14!
With their backs against the wall, Ka Ulu Koa had to win set three to delay a possible celebration for SAS, and in set three, they had a chance!
Outside Hitter Aspen Taylor Hanohano drew first blood, and teammate Piʻinaʻe Vaughan, a native of Kauai, added a second kill for an early 2-0 Ka Ulu Koa lead! Hanohano hopes to pursue a degree in law or forensic science.
SAS was just getting started though, and a Ka Ulu Koa service error resulted in back-to-back points scored to tie things up.
Both teams were neck and neck once again! With SAS leading, 14-12, Ka Ulu Koa uncorked a 7-1 run, including five unanswered, that was punctuated by a service ace from Outside Hitter Adrienne Monlux to make it a 19-15 Ka Ulu Koa lead!
Despite the gap, Opposite Hitter E’Lexxia Poland still felt her team had Ka Ulu Koa where they wanted them and had no doubt it would go to a fourth set!
“I was confident,” said Poland. “I knew we were going to pull through no matter what.”
SAS responded with three straight to pull within one, 19-18. Despite sparing two more points to Ka Ulu Koa, SAS got the last laugh via a 7-2 run to end the third set! The 25-23 win was punctuated on back-to-back kills from Mary Jean McManus Gago and Poland!
“We give all our glory to God!” said Poland. “We wouldn’t be here without Him! Without each other, our trust within our coaches, our system, we wouldn’t be here!”
Poland plans to celebrate with dinner with her family.
