Hawaii Saxophone Foundation Launches International Music and Cultural

Exchange Perfomances Featuring Acclaimed Japanese Artists and Hawaii’s

KALAPANA.

HONOLULU, HAWAIʻI — May 1, 2026

The Hawaii Saxophone Foundation, a Hawaii-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to music education and cultural enrichment, proudly announces an upcoming Japan–Hawaii Music and Cultural Exchange Residency scheduled for July 20–26, 2026 in Honolulu.

The residency will feature three internationally respected Japanese musicians:

  • Eric Miyashiro - Trumpet

  • Masato Honda – Saxophone

  • Eijiro Nakagawa – Trombone

Hosted by the Hawaii Saxophone Foundation, the weeklong educational residency will provide local students, educators, and the community with a rare opportunity to learn directly from these world-class artists through:

  • Private music instruction

  • Public master classes

  • Rehearsals with university ensembles

  • Educational outreach at local high schools, including McKinley High School, Waipahu High School, and Pearl City High School

  • Collaborative rehearsals at University of Hawaii at Manoa

  • A public benefit concert at Hawaiian Brian’s Crossroads

This initiative promotes cultural exchange between Japan and Hawaii through music education, artistic collaboration, and community engagement.

Our concert will be held on Saturday, July 25 th , 4 pm to 9 pm. In addition to performances by our three Japan artists, we have headlining Hawaii’s own Kalapana!

“This residency represents the spirit of ALOHA through music, education, and international friendship,” said Todd Yukumoto, President of the Hawaii Saxophone Foundation. “Our goal is to inspire Hawaii’s next generation of musicians while creating meaningful cultural connections between Japan and our island community.”

The Foundation has received community support from state and local leaders, as well as professional musicians’ organizations, helping bring this educational initiative to life.
