Houran Dan commits to Hawaiʻi basketball team for 2026-27!
Houran Dan
Per his Instagram (@dhr.8701), Houran Dan has chosen Hawaiʻi as his new home after two seasons at Seattle U!
Another piece of the puzzle has been added!
The University of Hawaiʻi Men’s Basketball team picked up another critical piece to their front court with the signing of Houran Dan on Friday, Apr. 17!
Dan, a 6’10 sophomore, previously played two seasons at Seattle University. He averaged under six points a game, but Dan is said to make a lot of dunks in the paint.
Dan, who originally hails from China, is the first Chinese player on the roster since Ji Xiang from 2007-2010, when Bob Nash was head coach.
Xiang played sparingly, but he could not break into the rotation consistently. He left the program after two seasons, redshirting the 2007-08 season, and appearing in 28 total games (nine in 2008-09 and 19 in 2009-10).
Dan joins Jaden Matingou, Marcus Adams Jr., and Zack Davidson as portal recruits. Scotty Belnap and Tiger Cuff, the younger brother of graduate transfer Tanner Cuff, also joined the roster following two-year church missions.
In other news, former UC Santa Barbara guard Zion Sensley committed to Loyola Marymount on Friday.
My Reaction:
I expect a lot from Houran Dan this coming season. If he does dunk a lot, he could be another version of former players Mor Seck, Vander Joaquim, and Mike Thomas all rolled into one! Dan may not have a Tanner Christiansen build, but I think he could show similar work in the paint. Averaging six points doesn’t sound like much, but if he does a lot of things that don’t show on the stat sheet, that’s great! Welcome to the islands, Houran! Show us what you got in 2026-27!
