Chance Trujillo transfers to Hawaiʻi from Utah Tech!

Per his X account (@ChanceTrujillo5), Chance Trujillo is the newest addition to the Hawaiʻi Men’s Basketball’s 2026-27 roster!
A familiar face is coming back to Hawaiʻi!
Chance Trujillo last played in the Stan Sheriff Center in a Utah Tech uniform in the 2025 Rainbow Classic Championship game and scored nine points in Utah Tech’s 68-62 loss to UH on Nov. 15, but UH fans will now see him in a Hawaiʻi uniform in 2026-27! Trujillo will have three seasons of eligibility.
Trujillo confirmed on Saturday that he will wear the Hawaiʻi uniform. He is a 6’4 redshirt freshman guard who knocked down 73 3-pointers, a Utah Tech program record, in his lone season with the Trailblazers! He appeared in 33 games with 23 starts. 21 of those games saw him score double-digits.
Trujillo was teammates with Isaac Finlinson at Snow College before the 2025-26 season! However, Finlinson was one of four UH players to enter the transfer portal this off-season.
Trujillo joins Marcus Adams Jr. (Arizona State), Jaden Matingou (Point Loma), Zack Davidson (Northern Arizona), and Houran Dan (Seattle U) as portal pickups for UH! Tiger Cuff and Scotty Belnap returned from two-year church missions and will be listed as freshmen.
Tanner Cuff and Isaiah Kerr remain the only returnees from last year’s roster while Isaac Johnson still awaits an approved waiver for a fifth season from the NCAA.
As of now, Finlinson has not announced his new home yet and has not ruled out a return to the UH roster, nor has Aaron Hunkin-Claytor.
My Reaction:
This is excellent news indeed! With Isaac Finlinson entering the transfer portal, maybe this will be the incentive needed for Finlinson to have a change of heart and stay. While Finlinson will have one last season of eligibility, these circumstances would be perfect for him to be teammates with Chance Trujillo at least one more time before exhausting his eligibility. Gytis Nemeikša had a change of heart himself last year, so maybe Isaac Finlinson will this year! Welcome aboard, Chance! Show us what you got!
