Sacred Hearts Vs. University Lab (9/11/2026)

The Sacred Hearts Lancers discuss how to come back after trailing much of set 2.

The Sacred Hearts Lancers were swept by the University Lab Junior Bows at Sacred Hearts Academy Gym, 25-21, 25-21, and 25-17 on Friday.

Mari Ah Yat was an animal for the Jr. Bows, as she logged a whopping 12 kills in the win.

Sacred Hearts scored the first three points of the first set, but University Lab came storming back with a 9-3 run to take the lead.

The Jr. Bows kept a handful of a lead, but the Lancers did not throw in the towel. The Lancers cut the gap to two off of a block and kill from Arianna Bernal, 16-14; however, the Jr. Bows were not intimidated and managed to increase their lead to seven late.

Sacred Hearts made a late push, but ULS put the first set away off a kill from Kaya Kurita-Kramer, 25-21.

Set two saw an identical start, but unlike the first set, Sacred Hearts kept the lead a bit longer. University Lab managed to come back to take the lead after a tie at six, but Hanaʻi Alo gave Sacred Hearts back the lead with a kill, 9-8. Arianni Yi added an ace after that. Alo logged a team-high eight kills in the loss for Sacred Hearts.

The Jr. Bows came back to take the lead with a 5-2 run, but the Lancers still made it a game with kills from Kalaʻi Tasi and Emmalia Schoening to retake the lead, 14-13!

After a tie at 16, University Lab’s Kramer hit back-to-back kills to ignite a momentum-shifting 10-4 run to win set two, 25-21.

University Lab was not done in set three. Ah Yat and Kramer proved to be too much for Sacred Hearts, as Kramer dished out a game-leading eight aces in ULS’ 3-set sweep!

“We have a very young team, mostly freshmen and sophomores,” said Tasi, who attends mass at St. John Vianney Church in Kailua. “ULS is a very experienced team — most of them have been on the team for many years already.”

Once again, Sacred Hearts found ways to keep pace, but other University Lab players stepped up to make Sacred Hearts start from scratch repeatedly.

University Lab was able to win set three, 25-17, and ended the set on an 11-4 run.

“Towards the end, we could see they were only setting the outside and only utilizing the outside as their hitter,” said Tasi.
