The Mililani Trojans outlasted the Campbell Sabers in a 3-set sweep, 25-12, 25-16, 25-16, at Mililani High School on Monday!

In set one, Mililani and Campbell were close out of the gates with four early ties, but Mililani busted through the dam the earliest! With the score tied at five, Mililani broke the first set wide open with a massive 20-7 run to win, 25-12.

Set two saw another close start, but Mililani stampeded to the tune of a 6-0 run to take an early 13-6 lead!

Campbell found a rhythm and used a 6-2 run to get within two, 15-13, but Mililani eventually found an answer!

Mililani responded back and outscored Campbell, 10-3, including the last six straight, to end the second set with the 25-16 win!

Mililani did not let up in set three. With the score tied at three, Mililani charged ahead with a 17-5 run, with e’Lexxia Poland recording 5 kills during the run! Campbell used a 5-2 run as a last gasp, but Poland slammed the door with two of the final three kills; the other came from teammate Gergana Kukin for the 25-16 win.

“All the work that we’re putting in is just really showing off!” Poland said.

She also felt her team wanted the win more than Campbell did, based on their body language and facial expressions.

“Ewa Beach is my hometown, so that was really the drive for me today,” Poland added.

Poland plans to celebrate by getting dinner with her family at Taco Bell.

Mililani will hit the road for their next game against the Nanakuli Golden Hawks at Nanakuli High School on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
