2026 Hawaiʻi Club Volleyball Championship 12U Division (5/9/26)
The 808 Athletic Club 12s hit the jackpot at Windward Mall on Saturday over Ka Ulu Koa 12 Larry with the Hawaiʻi Club Volleyball Championship in the 12U division in four sets, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17, and 25-19!
Ka Ulu Koa’s Luavaʻasiʻitia Soʻoalo, a student at Maryknoll School, drew first blood with a kill and aided in an early 4-2 lead!
808AC 12 began to get some momentum in their corner and tied Ka Ulu Koa on three occasions. They tied the score at seven on a Ka Ulu Koa service error, and that ignited a 5-1 surge to go up, 12-8!
Ka Ulu Koa did not back down and scored four of the next five points to get within one, 13-12. It was punctuated by a Raylee Raymond kill! Raymond is a Windward Oahu resident living in Waimanalo.
808AC 12 put the game in their favor via an 8-3 run, including five unanswered! That started with a Leilani Magno kill! Despite sparing three straight points to Ka Ulu Koa, 808AC 12 were up, 21-15!
Ka Ulu Koa answered with five straight after that; their run was punctuated on a Kailey Nguyen block, and Ka Ulu Koa trailed, 21-20, just like that! Nguyen has a peak ELO of 1711.
808AC 12 did not self-destruct and scored the final four points, including two Amelia-Rose Kikumu-Donato service aces to win the first set, 25-20!
Ka Ulu Koa came out with fire in set two!
After sparing a service ace to 808AC’s Camille Lomavita, Ka Ulu Koa ignited a 9-2 run, which included five consecutive Matalasi Ainuʻu service aces! The run was punctuated by a Mailelagi Satele-Willis kill! Ka Ulu Koa led 9-3, just like that!
“I was just talking to my team, and I was like, ‘We gotta start stepping our game, and we gotta focus!’” said Lomavita of those five straight aces.
808AC 12 found an answer to that run with five straight of their own that began with a Ka Ulu Koa service error, and they were now down, 9-8! Their run was punctuated on a Hayden Tavares Gernler kill!
Ka Ulu Koa responded with an 8-2 run of their own, punctuated by another Nguyen kill to take a 17-10 lead! Despite a 6-2 808AC run, Ka Ulu Koa still won set two, 25-20 after Nguyen effectively ended the second set with another kill!
Set three saw another close battle between both teams! 808AC held a 5-4 lead, but a service error allowed Ka Ulu Koa to get back in their neighborhood!
Three straight service aces from Ka Ulu Koa’s Raymond were part of a 6-0 surge until a long hit halted that run! Despite that, Ka Ulu Koa held a 10-5 lead prior to that long hit, but that was all 808AC 12 needed!
808AC 12 responded with a 16-6 run of their own to turn a five-point deficit into a 21-16 lead! They were not done though, as they scored four of the final five points to win the third set, 25-17!
“We played them a couple times,” said Lomavita. “We just believed in ourselves and had confidence, and we did it!”
Set four was the definition of a thriller! Both teams tied five times before they cracked 10 points!
Neither team held a lead of more than three until the closing stages! 808AC 12 scored five of the next six following a tie at 17 to take a 22-18 lead! That was all they needed, and a service ace ultimately ended the fourth set with 808AC 12 on top, 25-19!
Lomavita won the Most Valuable Player award, but she was unsure on how she’ll celebrate; she will have two reasons to celebrate because her sister is graduating college on Saturday night!
