Maidy Douglas comes to Hawaiʻi men’s basketball!
Maidy Douglas (@maidy_dgls) is the final addition to the 2026-27 Hawaiʻi Men’s Basketball roster as of Friday, Sept. 18.
For the first time since July 28, the University of Hawaiʻi Men’s Basketball team snagged a player for the 2026-27 season on Friday: Maidy Douglas!
Douglas comes from Paris, France, and he had an outstanding outing with Nanterre 92 in 2025-26, according to Hawaii Athletics. He averaged over 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists at the 2026 FIBA U20 EuroBasket tournament for the French national team. He is listed as a Freshman.
With the signing of Douglas, the UH Men’s Basketball roster is officially finalized for 2026-27. Douglas is the first French player on the roster since Luc-Arthur Vebobe over 20 years ago.
Vebobe did not make much of a splash during his very short time with UH. He only participated in several games before he left the team due to supposed homesickness.
In other recruitment news, UH has also offered 4-star class of 2028 big man William Makoi, who originally hails from South Sudan, as per Hawaiʻi Sports Radio Network’s Paul Brecht. Makoi has offers from San Diego St., Vanderbilt, UCLA, and High Point as well, as per his Instagram, @william.makoi.
Douglas joins Lueth Awan, Aloïs Leyrolles, Tiger Cuff, Scotty Belnap, Marcus Adams Jr., Jaden Matingou, Zack Davidson, Houran Dan, Chance Trujillo, Kellen Hampton, Bol Dengdit, and Manie Joses as pickups for the season.
Tanner Cuff and Isaiah Kerr are the only returnees from last season. This totals 13 players for the UH Men’s Basketball 2026-27 roster.
UH will begin its first season in the Mountain West Conference in January 2027. The full non-conference schedule has yet to be announced.
My Reaction:
This is great! UH has had a strong history of international flavor from Australia, France, New Zealand, etc.! I see Maidy Douglas as a good player at the 2 or 3 position! Are we going to contend for the top spot in the Mountain West? I’m not sure, but if Douglas is very athletic for his said role, we have a good chance. While France has not been a hot spot for UH Men’s Basketball players, Douglas can do a lot more than Luc-Arthur Vebobe did in his very short time with the team; Vebobe could have done great things if he really gave the state of Hawaiʻi a real chance! Welcome aboard, Maidy! Show us what you can do!
