Island Dance Directors Hold Zoom Meeting
Saturday, May 30th, 2020
Kymberly Pine, The District 1 City Councilmember held a virtual townhall Zoom meeting with local studio directors to hear concerns, discuss possible solutions, and take steps toward reopening our vital “soul saving” services.
On April 30th Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell allowed 1 on 1 educational services to reopen but there has been little guidance on the reopening of dance studios. Councilmember Pine stated in the Zoom meeting that many “have been left behind or forgotten” because of a lack of lobbists fighting for them.
Allan Lau, Keiki Director of 24/7 Danceforce, brought up the difficulties of engaging students thru distance learning. Aunty Penny of Drill Team Hawaii expressed her concerns over the possible negative impacts dance closures have on our keiki. Watch the 9 minute highlight video for more.
