Sports can be family events
On Sunday, 7th Gen Culture helped host and facilitate The Luau outdoor volleyball tournament. There were competitors of all ages. There were family tents everywhere. There were food vendors outside and inside the park for everyone to eat and enjoy.
The opening ceremonies featured a haka dance that got the energy going. With over 36 courts and hundreds of teams this event started fast and burned hot throughout the day just like the weather. Kids, adults, pros, college players and everyone in between was competing in this tournament.
The women and girls were competing as fiercely as the men and boys. The young and the old were diving all over the place to dig it out. People were exhausted and leaving it all on the field and there weren’t any issues at the event. There was a ton of staff to help and coordinate and the DJ/announcer kept the event upbeat and entertaining throughout.
The hosting pro team ended up winning the men’s open division but were given an exciting game from the local college boys. The overall competition level of the event was high, and it seemed like all the players and teams involved had a really good experience. There were generations of family’s competing against each other all over.
The fence was full of tents with families and players hanging out and spending quality time together. There were teams from other states and islands as well as all over Oahu as well. It was great seeing volleyball be so prominent of an event after coming from Seattle. A lot of people stayed to watch the women’s and men’s finals giving a real sense of community within the volleyball scene.
So many aunties, uncles and children running around full of joy. You could feel the sense of ohana in the air. The sun was warm, but the competition was hotter. The Luau volleyball tournament was a true success and a blueprint for family friendly events. 7th Gen Culture is providing sporting events for the family to enjoy all day.
